InterConnect Program

interconnect logo

The InterConnect program seeks to support new international students with their cultural, social, and academic transition to Reed by matching them with a current Reedie.

New students and their mentors will get to know each other through frequent individual meetings and a series of InterConnect events that will occur during the school year.

InterConnect Mentors Fall 2026

Valeria Gonzalez Padilla

Lead Mentor

Hola hola! My name is Valeria (she/her), and I am a junior in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from Mexico, Guatemala, and Costa Rica. I'm passionate about science and work doing undergrad chemistry research and in the nuclear reactor (yes, Reed has a nuclear reactor!). In my free time, I enjoy hiking, going to concerts, playing the violin, thrifting, baking, gaming, and playing/trading Pokémon cards. I am excited to meet you all and help you transition to this new and exciting era. I am certain we will have a great time during orientation, and please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions. See you soon! :P

Reed Jadzinsky

Lead Mentor
Hello! My name is Reed (he/him) and I'm an International Affairs- Poli Sci major. I'm from California, but my family is from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and I grew up spending a lot of time over there. I also studied abroad in France and China and love to travel! In my free time, I like to write, watch movies, and try out new coffee shops (feel free to ask me for any recs, I have many!) I look forward to getting to meet you all, and please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have!

Avis Corea

ISC Coordinator

I’m Avis—Neuroscience student, your veteran ISC Coordinator, and professional parrot enthusiast. If I’m not studying, I’m probably crocheting or watching reality TV. I bring a bit of a Central American and Caribbean perspective to the table (iyk, yk!), especially when it comes to cooking. If you’re feeling homesick, hit me up & we’ll scavenge every market in the city until we find the ingredients to make something nice, yummy & traditional (to your liking!). Excited to meet and share with every single one of you, and celebrate culture together!

Akniyet Nurbol

ISC Coordinator
Hii! I’m Akniyet (she/her), born and raised in Atyrau, Kazakhstan. I’m currently aiming for a degree in computer science/math and am very excited to be the international student club coordinator. Whenever I get some time to breathe from homework, I like to hike or travel. I love, love, love planes, trains, and buses—anything that helps me move from one place to somewhere really far away. Seeing new places is amazing, but missing home is a very familiar feeling to me, so if you ever need someone to talk to or tips on how to get somewhere, you can always ask me. I’m very excited to meet everyone!!!

Nimat-Lah Balogun

InterConnect Mentor
Hi, hi! I’m Nimat-Lah & I am an Economics major. Home for me is London, England, but I lived in rural New Mexico for two years before coming to Reed (feel free to ask me about it). Wherever there is sunshine, spicy food, chess, conspiracy theories, a hike, or board games, I shall be there! See you around campus :)

Xavier da Silva

InterConnect Mentor
Oi I’m Xavier (he/him) and home for me is Brazil (land of soccer and samba, but I’m terrible at playing soccer or dancing samba). I am a senior philosophy-religion ad hoc major. I love food, and you can often find me in a kitchen. If you have a family recipe that makes you feel at home, let me know, and we can bring home to Portland. I'm also passionate about languages. I speak Portuguese, French, Spanish, and am on this journey to learn Arabic! I'm thrilled to help make your transition to Reed as smooth and memorable as possible. I'm looking forward to connecting with all of you! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or just want to chat :)

Alice de Figueiredo Argentino

InterConnect Mentor

Hi, I'm Alice (she/her)! I'm a sophomore philosophy major, and my home is the vibrant São Paulo, Brazil. I love everything art related; reading, creative writing, throwing pottery, theatre, music... the list really is endless. As a big city girl, I've got a knack for coolhunting and finding every hole-in-the-wall gem Portland has to offer, and I'd love to bring new Reedies along! I also love learning about anything and everything (very specific, I know), so come talk to me if you've got a niche interest to rant about, or if you're down with debating ideas!

Aruni Hussain

InterConnect Mentor
Hi, my name's Aruni. I'm a Bangladeshi sophomore and an anthropology major with a focus on biology. I was born in Canada, but I've moved around a lot throughout my life and spent pretty much all of grade school in French international schools, so on top of being fluent in English and Bangla, I'm also fluent in French!

I love traveling and making friends everywhere I go. I pride myself on being a very welcoming and approachable person. Community is very important to me, so I'll make it my priority to make sure you can find it at Reed! There's a place for everyone here.

Gabriela Montañez Gutiérrez

InterConnect Mentor
Holaa! I’m Gaby, an English major with minors in Math and Spanish. I’m from Colombia, and I speak Spanish, plus a bit of French and Latin. I love board games, Panda Express, and spontaneous “side quests” with my friends. I love smiling at people and sharing fun facts about myself—so please ask me anything! I love hugs, the library, arepas, and I’m deeply proud of my country — I carry that love with me everywhere I go. I serve on Reed’s Senate and Honor Council. I’m someone who loves to love deeply, whether that’s my friends, my family, my dog Oishi, or new people. I’m sooo excited to meet all of you and be a friendly, supportive presence as you transition to Reed. Bienvenidos!! :)

Yuki Nagura

InterConnect Mentor

Hi! My name is Yuki, and I am a junior studying Physics. I call Nagoya, Japan my home, and I came to the U.S. to start my college life at Reed. Before that, I lived in a dormitory in high school as well, so if you ever want to talk about dorm life, which sometimes can be uneasy, feel free to reach out.

Outside of school, I love playing sports and going on shopping dates. On Google Maps, I have about 100 places saved in Portland, and I will keep adding to the list!

I look forward to meeting you!
