Returning Student Assignments & Waitlist Information

How are assignments made?

Returning students participate in Housing Selection. Returning students are able to select their on-campus assignments for the following academic year, within specified neighborhoods. On-campus housing options will be based on students’ class year, accommodation status, and their specified buildings.

All students who completed the 2026-27 Housing Application will receive a randomly generated lottery number and will select their housing in that order. Sophomores are guaranteed housing as part of the residency requirement. Juniors and seniors will be able to select their on-campus housing based on availability. We will have a waitlist process for students who do not initially select on-campus housing or who miss the sign-up period.

In order to provide housing for as many students as possible, Residence Life may reassign, change assignments, or assign a roommate to students who are assigned to rooms that are not at capacity.

Waitlist Information

Students may add themselves to the waitlist for the following reasons:

  • They did not initially receive a housing assignment
  • They did not initially sign up for housing

After Housing Selection, a student may add themselves to our housing waitlist via our .

After June 1, please email res.life@reed.edu to be added to the waitlist.

Students may not add themselves to the waitlist for a different assignment. If students have concerns about their assignment, they should reach out to res.life@reed.edu.

Waitlist applications have to be submitted in order to be considered for a waitlist room. Students who signed up for housing on time will be given preference over students who missed that deadline. If we offer students a room that is within their specified neighborhoods and they do not accept it or we do not hear back from them within the specified timeline, their name will be removed from the waitlist.
