Spring 2026

Part of the Language Scholars's mission is to plan events to help students learn their language and be immersed in their culture. Come and join them to their events, held in the Language Houses here on campus.

Special events

Thursday, February 12th, 2026: 🌹💌

  • Multilingual Valentines Making Event and friendship bracelets
  • Held in the Language Lab from 6 to 8pm
  • How do you say "I love you" in your language? 
  • Share the love and get into the Valentine's Day's spirit!
  • Come eat sweet treats

Sunday, February 15th, 2026: 🇨🇳🧋

  • Spring Festival Celebration held in Student Union from 6pm to 8pm
  • Tanghulu, dumplings, boba milk tea and Chinese games are waiting for you!

  • Translation Symposium held in Eliot 314 from 4.15pm to 5.45pm

  • Friday, February 20, 2026: Chinese House. Information Session. From 3pm to 4pm. Everyone who’s interested in studying abroad or want to know others’s journey in mainland China and Taiwan are welcomed! Snacks and tea will be provided! 
  • Friday, February 13, 2026: Spring Festival Decoration Night. Come and write your scrolls or DIY your Chinese window paper-cut to decorate your room and enjoy the new year atmosphere in the Chinese House from 7pm to 8:30pm.
  • Sunday, February 15, 2026: Spring Festival Celebration. Tanghulu, dumplings, boba milk tea and Chinese games are waiting for you! It will be held in the Student Union from 6pm to 8pm.
  • Friday, February 27, 2026: Mahjong Night. Come and play mahjong in the Chinese House from 7pm to 8:30pm.

French Language Scholars Events

Every Monday:

  • Pause café is held in French House at 7pm
  • Come chat with the French Language Scholars
  • Drinks and cake will be provided
  • Monday, January 26th, 2026 will consist of an ‘Epiphanie’ celebration (Epiphany), which is typically associated with the traditional Galette des Rois 
  • Monday, February 2nd, 2026 will consist of a ‘Chandeleur’ celebration (Candlemass), which is typically associated with making and eating crêpes 
  • Monday, February 9th, 2026 will highlight Brittany’s famous Kouign-Amann, a small cake solely composed of butter, sugar, and dough
  • Monday, February 16th, 2026 will feature ‘puff puffs’, a traditional snack eaten accross Africa. These are a sort of bite-sized beignets
  • Monday, February 23rd, 2026 will feature ‘financiers’, almond-based mini-cakes

Every Wednesday:

  • Movie night is held in Farm House at 7pm
  • Come watch a French movie selected by the French Language Scholars
  • Popcorn and snacks will be provided
  • Wednesday, January 28th, 2026 : screening of “LOL” (with English subtitles) 
  • Wednesday, February 4th, 2026 : screening of “Simone, le voyage du siècle” (with English subtitles). This movie is about Simone Veil: former French magistrate, Holocaust survivor, and politician widely known for her speech arguing for the legalization of abortion 
  • Wednesday, February 11th, 2026 : screening of “La Famille Bélier” (with English subtitles)
  • Wednesday, February 18th, 2026 : screening of “Saint-Omer” (with English subtitles). Content warning : "Saint Omer" is based on the French court case of Fabienne Kabou, who was convicted in 2016 of murdering her infant by drowning. Diop (screenplay writer and director of the movie) attended Kabou's trial. 

The Last Wednesday of Every Month: Activities Night!

German Language Scholar Events

Every Wednesday:

  • Kaffeeklatsch is held in German House at 4pm
  • Come chat with the German Language Scholar
  • Drinks and cake will be provided

  • Friday, February 6th, 2026: Arts and Crafts (paper making & favorite German expressions) held in the German House at 3:15pm
  • Monday, February 16th, 2026: Karneval (wear costumes, eat filled donuts) held in the German House at 6:30pm

Russian Language Scholar Events

Every Wednesday:

  • 'Table talks' is held in Russian House from 10am to 11.30am
  • Come chat with the Russian Language Scholar
  • Make a stop to discuss all the complexities of this life and pratice Russian
  • Come drink some tea and eat Slavic snacks

Every Monday:

  • Movie night is held in Russian House at 5pm

Other events:

  • Wednesday, February 25th, 2026: Republic of Estonia Independence Day. Event held at 5pm in Russian House. Celebration and table talk about Russian-speaking people in Estonia (traditional Estonian dishes included) (ENG, RUS, EST)

  • Snacks and drinks will be provided
  • Friday, January 30th, 2026: Noche de cine (Movie night): screening of “El buen patrón” (The good boss).

February’s Activities night:

  • Thursday, February 5th, 2026. Spanish House: Information session Studying abroad (programs Barcelona, Madrid and Buenos Aires. 7pm, Spanish House. Cookies and chocolate served! (poster done)
  • Thursday, February 12th, 2026: Noche de cine (Movie night): screening of “Sirat”. Trigger Warning: This film includes violent scenes that may cause discomfort or strong emotional reactions. Canyon House. 7pm. Snacks and drinks will be provided.
  • Thursday, February 19th, 2026: Noche de Juegos de mesa (Boardgame night). Canyon House. 7pm. Come to Canyon House and spend a chill evening playing Spanish card games, boardgames and having some snacks. Food and drinks provided. (poster done)
  • Thursday, February 26th, 2026: Noche de cine (Movie night): El ciudadano ilustre (The Distinguished Citizen). 

Special events:

  • Saturday, February 7th, 2026. Spanish House advisor event. Collaboration of the Spanish Language Scholars. Home Dinner at Spanish House. Come and visit us if you want to try savoury Tamales. 6pm at Spanish House. Food and drinks will be provided.
